Every Platform Lift will have a maximum safe working load (the amount it can lift) published on a Load Plate which will be displayed on the Car Operating Panel, but how do you ensure that people won’t try and lift more than this? The answer is an overload device which prevents the lift from moving if it detects that the lift is overloaded. In some instances, the voice annunciation will announce “lift overloaded” or a message displayed on the Digital Display Unit. Once the excess weight has been removed, the lift will return to normal operation. Most vertical lifts are supplied with some form of overload device. They can also be found on some platform stairlifts.
