A Dumb Waiter is a small service lift, traditionally used for transporting food or crockery between floors. From our research, it would appear that the term Dumb Waiter describes a device which unlike its human counterpart is incapable of causing offense and performs its duties flawlessly. Dumb waiters can also be used for transporting other light goods, such as document files in office buildings or boxes of stock within a retail environment. They can also take the leg work out of many chores within the home.
