The term Scissor Lift describes the motion of the arms underneath the lift platform, because they open and close like a pair of Scissors. These ‘Scissors’ sit in a recess (or pit) in the floor when the lift is at the lower landing. When the lift rises, the scissors open underneath the platform and pushes it upwards. Scissor lifts are renowned for lifting heavy loads and they are often favoured for their aesthetics (when at the lower level, there are no guides, columns or mast visible).
