Case Study
The Food Museum, located in the heart of East Anglia, required a vertical platform lift solution as part of its Arts Council England-funded programme of improvements to its estate operations. The museum was looking for a simple yet durable lift to provide level access between its collection store and the newly created upper floor, which houses office space, a meeting room and a breakout area. The ability to move exhibition objects safely and efficiently between the two levels of the Stores Building is central to the museum’s exhibition planning and curatorial work. Equally important is ensuring the building is fully accessible for staff and volunteers, many of whom are older adults, supporting the organisation’s continued growth.
Access Solution
Level Access Lifts recommended its Swedish Style ILS 05K vertical platform lift, which offers a travel height of more than three metres and a load capacity of 500kg. With its clean Scandinavian design and standard white finish, the lift is unobtrusive and well-suited to a refurbished building environment. The ILS 05K is also low maintenance, with smooth travel, ease of operation and a comprehensive range of safety features.
The lift was pit-mounted and installed by Level Access Lifts concurrently with the wider extension and refurbishment works to the Stores Building, minimising disruption to the programme.

Results
Installation of the Swedish Style vertical platform lift has created a fully accessible vertical route within the Stores Building, connecting the ground-floor collection store with the upper-level offices, meeting room, breakout area and library. The Food Museum can now safely transport objects between floors, while staff, volunteers and visitors with limited mobility or disabilities have a reliable and dignified access route.
Aesthetically, the vertical platform lift sits comfortably within the refurbished building, its clean, modern appearance complementing the new interior.
