Case Study
A residential customer in a seaside property faced daily challenges accessing their home because of a steep flight of 39 steps from street level to the front door. Concerned about long-term mobility and the practicality of navigating this incline, they approached Level Access Lifts for an accessibility solution. The coastal location added another challenge, as any equipment needed to withstand the corrosive effects of salt air conditions.
Access Solution
Level Access Lifts assessed the installation requirements with a site survey. The stair lift needed to travel a steep 5-metre incline and navigate a mid-landing. It also needed to be compact due to the narrow flight of steps. Level Access Lifts recommended their incline GTLE platform stair lift, a versatile solution available in different platform sizes and suitable for both curved and straight steps. The marine-graded specification of this external model made it ideal for the seaside environment. It also comes with a protective cover.
To prepare for installation, minimal building work was undertaken. Utility pipes were relocated, and the existing handrail was removed to accommodate the new system. The installation involved floor-mounting six sections of rail to paved concrete steps using 20 galvanised columns, ensuring structural stability across the full height of the incline.
The GTLE platform stair lift was built to the customer’s specifications, with a 650mm-wide platform to fit the narrow steps, finished in anthracite grey and equipped with onboard controls for ease of use.
Results
The installation of the incline GTLE platform stair lift has transformed access to the property, providing a step-free route from street level to the front door for residents and visitors. This has enabled residents to live independently and has future-proofed the property.
