Case Study
Stamford College, part of the Inspire Education Group, offers education and training to over 2,000 students every year across a huge range of courses. As part of its ongoing commitment to making all its facilities fully accessible, the college has continually enhanced its access arrangements to accommodate the building’s multiple floor levels, a result of it being constructed on an incline. Its latest addition is the Tech Lift M4 from Level Access Lifts.
Platform Lift Access within the College
Over the years, the college has installed a passenger lift providing access across five floors, along with two platform step lifts from a different manufacturer to Level Access Lifts. The one which leads down into the library was an integrated stairs and platform lift, installed to make full use of the width of the staircase and accommodate the busy student footfall. The staircase was split in two, with traditional steps on one side and the step lift on the other, which could transform between steps and a platform. Unfortunately, the product needed fixing, and the complexity of repairing it outweighed the benefits of sourcing a replacement.
The Tech Lift M4 Step Lift Provided the Best Solution
Rather than get a like-for-like replacement, the college wanted a step lift with a simple rise-and-fall platform instead of one that transforms between steps and a platform. The Tech Lift M4 from Level Access Lifts met the brief for a quality-engineered step lift that fit the existing footprint without any structural changes and could reach a travel height of 600mm.
Level Access Lifts installed the replacement step lift within a single day, with minimal disruption to the college’s daily operations
Results
Stamford College now has a robust step lift solution built for a busy student environment. Its silver aluminium finish and contemporary design blend seamlessly with the existing steps’ silver balustrade and rail. It’s used daily by wheelchair users, people with limited mobility, and staff members transporting light goods between levels. Together with the college’s other step lift, the Tech Lift M4 now serves the route from the upper refectory and reception down to the library.
