If you’ve ever seen a button in a lift that says ‘Press for Assistance’ then you are probably looking at an autodialler. Simply put, an autodialler is an emergency telephone that can only ring predetermined telephone numbers and is used to alert a 3rd party that someone is stuck in the lift. When the button is pressed, the autodialler will ring the first number in the list, if there is no answer it will call the second number and so on. The customer will be asked to furnish the Lift Engineer with a list of contact numbers (e.g. Lift Maintenance Company, Reception, Caretaker, etc) and also their chosen order of priority. Connection to a telephone line is required.
