Importance of Fire Rated Doors on Building Landings
If 2 separate fire compartments within a building are breached as a result of applying a lift, then there will be a need to reinstate the fire protection, ensuring that fire and smoke cannot make its way from one floor to another. The most common method of achieving this is to fit fire rated doors and frames to the lift which can offer fire protection for anywhere between 0.5 – 2 hours. Fire rating the remainder of the lift can be achieved by either utilising a brick / blockwork shaft, or applying Fire Boarding to the lift enclosure after installation. Always consult your local Fire Officer / Building Control Dept, if you are unsure about the need for fire protection.
