A means of verbally communicating between the lift platform and someplace outside of the lift but still within the building. Intercoms are a popular choice as they are low cost and do not incur line rental charges. However, in situations where the building is not manned then an autodialler should be considered instead as it will alert people outside of the building. Some intercoms require cabling between the two speakers, whilst others are wireless, making installation much easier.
