What Is A Mast / What Does Guide Side Mean?
One of the most commonly asked questions is – “what is a mast / what does guide side mean”? Most vertical lifts (other than scissor lifts and column drive steplifts) will have the guide / rails positioned along one side of the lift. In between the guides will likely be a hydraulic ram, full length screw or traction motor. This entire guide / drive assembly is referred to as the mast. The most suitable side for the mast will be determined by factors such as, the location of a fixing wall, where abouts the doors and glazing are required in the lift and how best to run cables and hydraulic hoses to it from a control cabinet.
