Understanding Safety Edges / Sensitive Edges?
Where there is the potential to trap, crush or shear (typically between a stationary object and a moving part), then a safety edge or sensitive edge will be fitted. These are mechanically operated devices – in other words they need to be physically pressed or squeezed. If for instance the user were to stand on the edge of the lift platform (where there is a safety edge between the platform and structure panels), the lift will stop. Only once the obstruction has been removed, will the lift continue to raise or lower.
