Introduction to residential platform stair lifts
Level Access Lifts provides residential platform stairlifts across the UK to create accessible homes. Inclined platform stairlifts are designed for people who have difficulty climbing stairs due to mobility issues, injury or disability.
The motorised platform travels along two small diameter stainless steel rails which are either fixed to the floor or the wall, to carry a person up and down the stairs. The platform folds neatly away providing a compact platform lift solution for the home. Our range of domestic stairlifts can be fitted to curved and straight staircases, indoors or outdoors.
Benefits of platform stair lifts in the home
A platform stairlift offers a practical and cost-effective way to adapt your home for accessibility without major structural work. Outside the house, a platform stairlift can provide access to steps leading to the front door or garden. Inside, it connects upper and lower floors and overcomes obstacles such as split levels.
Unlike a traditional seated stairlift, a platform stairlift allows wheelchair users to remain in their chair throughout the journey, no transfers required. This makes it an excellent alternative to a vertical platform lift or home lift where space or budget is limited.
Introducing our best-selling platform stairlift model
The GTLE platform stairlift (rated load 300kg) is our most popular model because it is cost-effective, dependable and easy to install. It fits both straight and curved staircases and features an ultra-slim design suitable for narrow stairways.
For steeper gradients or tighter bends, the GTLD variant provides additional capability. Both models can be supplied with a marine-grade specification, making them ideal for coastal properties exposed to salt air and humidity.
Key features:
- 22 platform sizes available to suit your space
- Indoor and outdoor installation
- Standard or custom RAL colour finishes
- Wall-mounted or floor-mounted rail options
- Optional folding seat

The energy-efficient operation of platform stairlifts keeps running costs low.

Installation requirements and process
Level Access Lifts undertake comprehensive site surveys to access the suitability of your home for a platform stairlift. Our expert team will access the construction of the wall, stairs and landing as well as the stair width, lower landing space and any overhead restrictions.
We work closely with our customers to ensure a stress free seamless professional service. Our platform stairlifts are manufactured and ready to install within a six-to-eight-week period. Installation takes between one and two days with minimal disruption and are fully tested by our expert engineers.
Pricing guidance
Our platform stairlifts are competitively priced. Prices start from £10,500 and vary according to the type of staircase, rail length, platform size, additional features, bespoke RAL colours and complexities of the project.
Warranty and maintenance
We provide a fully comprehensive parts and labour warranty. Customers also receive two preventative maintenance visits during the first 12 months. Level Access Lifts continues to support its customers by offering an on-going service agreement. We recommend servicing your platform stair lift twice a year to ensure long-term reliability and safety and four times a year when the installation is in a chlorine rich or harsh external environment.
FAQs
What is the difference between a platform stairlift and a seated stairlift?
A platform stairlift offers a safe and dignified travel for wheelchair users. The platform is large enough to accommodate a wheelchair which means the user does not have to transfer out of their chair. Most models of platform stairlifts like our GLTE product have the option of an additional folding seat so it can be used by wheelchair users and those with restricted mobility.
Can a platform stairlift be installed on a curved staircase?
Yes. Our GTLE and GTLD models are designed for both straight and curved staircases, including those with bends, landings and changes in gradient.
How much space does a platform stairlift need?
A platform stairlift in its folded position sits flush against the wall. This leaves the staircase or steps clear for other users when not in operations. Our range of products can accommodate most staircase widths including narrow ones. We conduct a site survey to assess the best solution.
Is a platform stairlift suitable for outdoor use?
Yes. Our GTLE range is fully weatherproofed and marine-graded if required, making it suitable for external steps and coastal environments.
How much does it cost to run a platform stairlift?
Our platform stairlifts operate from continually charged batteries, meaning that they can still travel in either direction during a power outage. As the platform stairlift does not run directly from your electrical supply, the only power required is to the small battery trickle charger which costs pennies to run.
